Ada Lillian Church Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Ada Lillian (Brooks) Church was born to John and Lena Mildred (Gill) Brooks in Swartz Creek, MI, on March 1, 1918. She passed away in Sault Ste. Marie, MI on August 16, 2016, at the age 98. Ada met her husband, Forrest B. “Dick” Church, in Ypsilanti, MI, while she worked as a house nanny and he as a taxi driver. They married in Flint, MI on June 26, 1937. In 1946, they moved from Flint, MI to the Upper Peninsula, buying their home in Cedarville, MI the following year. Ada was a private, yet very family-centered, disciplined, loving, loyal person. She was intelligent, determined and gifted with endeavors such as painting, crafts, needlework, sewing, knitting, cooking and canning. Ada loved the outdoors and nature, enjoying the solace of the forest. She especially loved family gatherings around Thanksgiving. Her stated advice to others for longevity was “eat what you’re supposed to eat, and do what you’re supposed to do.” Ada lived independently until almost 97 years old, when she moved to Assisted Living at McKinley Manor in Sault Ste. Marie, MI. She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church of Sault Ste. Marie, MI, where she had been baptized. Ada is survived by her sister Thelma Goodall of Burton, MI. Also surviving Ada are her four children: Diane K. Borrousch of Sault Ste. Marie MI, David R. (Kathy) Church of DeTour MI, Randall D. (Gale) Church of Freeport IL, Richard L. (Ruth Mankowski) Church of Kalamazoo MI; her eight grandchildren: Dennis Borrousch, Ken (Stacey) Borrousch, Pennie (Marla) Rosin-Borrousch, Amy Church, Becky Church, Rachael (Noel) Harding, Robert Church, and Nikki Church; and her nine great-grandchildren: Sydnie, Savanna, Daniel, Joshua, Luke, Emmalee, Noah, Zachary, and Allison. Ada was preceded in death by her husband Forrest B. “Dick” Church (1970). A memorial service will be held at R. Galer Funeral Home of Pickford, MI, on Saturday August 20, 2016. Gathering will be at 2:00 P.M. and the Memorial Service will be at 3:00 P.M. Pastor Jeff Grundmeier will be officiant. Burial will be at Cedar Cemetery in Cedarville, MI where she will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband, and her mother Lena Mildred (Lloyd) Phelps. She is forever loved.
