Cleda Strandholm

March 29, 1927 - September 14, 2020

Cleda Strandholm, age 93, of Cedarville, Michigan, passed September 14, 2020, under hospice care in Wyandotte, Michigan. She was born March 29, 1927 to parents Isaac and Grace Brock in Harlan County, Kentucky. Cleda grew up in Wallins Creek, Kentucky. She graduated from Pine Mountain Settlement School and attended Berea College for two years. In 1947, she followed her siblings to Detroit, eventually working for Bower Roller Bearing. In the spring of 1952, she went to listen to her friend's husband play in a band. There she met John "Jack" Strandholm. She danced with him that night and never stopped dancing with him. They were married July 23, 1952 and began raising their family. They made their home in Southgate, Michigan and retired to Cedarville in 1980. Cleda was a long-time member of the Hessel Presbyterian Church. She loved to fish for perch and laughed every time she caught one. She was a very good bowler, enjoyed playing cards and other board games with family and friends. She was a tough competitor and she loved to win. In the winter, she would retreat to her home in Winter Haven, Florida. She was an excellent cook and a long-time fan of the Detroit Tigers. Most of all she was a loving wife, the best mother, and a devoted grandmother. Cleda is survived by her children, John (Lori) Strandholm of Buffalo, Wyoming, Karen Strandholm of Grosse Ile, Michigan, and Jeffrey (Toni) Strandholm of Southgate, Michigan; grandchildren, J.C (Sarah) Strandholm, Katie (Dusty) Daniels, and Christina (Mike) Stopczynski; great-grandchildren, Gannett, Jayden, and Evan; and sister-in-law Marie Brock. She also is survived by many nieces and nephews who loved her and all of whom she loved dearly. Cleda was preceded in death by her husband Jack; parents; brothers Howard and Bill Brock; sisters, Ellen Smith, Lena Blanton, Ida Brock, and Mary Burgan. Services will be held on Friday, September 18, 2020 at 2:00pm. Should friends and family desire, memorial contributions may be made to Hessel Presbyterian Church, PO Box 301, Hessel, MI 49745. A celebration of life will be held post-covid.
