September 29, 1938 - August 12, 2021
Darlene Ethel "Dar" Jarmusch, age 83, of DeTour, Michigan, died on August 12, 2021. She was born on September 29, 1938, in DeTour to Rene "Ray" and Aino "Ina" (Kyllikki) Landreville. Darlene grew up in DeTour on the Landreville farm. She graduated from DeTour High, and afterward moved to St. Ignace to work for Dr. Shaftoe as his assistant. She met Gerald Francis Jarmusch, while living in St. Ignace. They married and traveled to many places with the Air Force; being stationed in Kincheloe, Michigan, Phalsbourg, France, Duluth, Minnesota, Indian Springs, Nevada, Tucson, Arizona, and Riverside, California. Their twin boys, Gerald and Darrel were born at Kincheloe Air Force Base while their daughter Corinne was born in France. After Jerry retired, the family moved back to DeTour and bought their home on North Erie Street. Both Dar and Jerry were employed at DeTour Public Schools. Jerry passed away unexpectedly in 1981 and Dar continued to live in their DeTour home. She enjoyed visiting her children and grandchildren around the country, making several trips to Hawaii, Maine, and the Carolinas. She also visited many Michigan islands and lighthouses with her sister, Ann, and her dear friends Betty and Susan. In later years, she greatly enjoyed the companionship of Frank Bailey and loved seeing the countryside from the back seat of Frank's motorcycle. She loved living in Northern Michigan and near the Great Lakes; it was her favorite place to be. Darlene was a member of the AMVETs Ladies Auxiliary, the Senior Citizens of DeTour, and the DeTour Village Players. Darlene was very artistic and enjoyed a variety of hobbies. She adored making special things for her grandchildren, like beautifully crocheted blankets, doll clothes, and gorgeous birthday cakes! Later in life, she learned to paint with oils and paint class became a highlight of her week. She created countless beautiful landscape pieces and many lucky family members own treasured oils that she made especially for family reunion raffles. One of her greatest joys was organizing and hosting the Landreville family reunions held in DeTour Village. She knew how to direct the attention of a large, rowdy family, and she loved each and every one of them dearly! It was also a priority to attend her annual DeTour/Drummond class get-togethers; even when there were only two or three in attendance. Her favorite collectibles were Mickey Mouse and Elvis memorabilia. Dar was always up for a Monopoly marathon, a good round of Scrabble, or her almost daily 10-Quarters game with the girls. And we can't forget Bingo! Amazingly, she could play sheets of cards and keep an eye on everyone else's at the same time. Darlene simply loved having fun with her family and friends. Darlene is survived by her children, Gerald (Paula) Jarmusch of Nashville, Tennessee, Darrel (Sheryl) Jarmusch of Elfrida, Arizona, Corinne (John) Newhall of North Berwick, Maine, and Diana (John) Weiss of Knapp, Wisconsin; grandchildren, Ariel Lothlorien, Wesley Jarmusch, Brittany Langevin, and Olivia Jarmusch; great-grandchildren, Brody Laurian, Odin Jackson, Atlas Jackson, Caleb Jarmusch, Gabrielle Jarmusch, and Benjamin Jarmusch; siblings, Audrey Wehmeier of Luther, Michigan, Ann Landreville of DeTour, Angie Thompson of Quincy, Illinois, Irene Law of Lake City, Michigan, and Debra Bailey, of Drummond Island, Michigan. Darlene was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, James Langevin; and brothers, Keith, Lucian, Leo, and Richard Landreville. Services will be held Thursday, August 19, 2021, at Galer Funeral Homes in Pickford, Michigan. Visitation will be from 11:00AM to 1:00PM with the Funeral Service to follow at 1:00PM. Final Resting Place is Maple Grove Cemetery in DeTour, Michigan. Memorial Contributions may be made to Harbor View Assisted Living & Hospice, P.O. Box 123, DeTour Village, MI 49725.
