Doris Ann Powers Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Doris Ann Powers, age 81, of St. Ignace, Michigan, died on February 12, 2020 in St. Ignace. She was born on August 19, 1938 in St. Ignace, to Emmet Joshua and Eva (Wabaganese) Powers. Doris grew up in St. Ignace and graduated from LaSalle High School with the class of 1956. After graduation, she attended Bay City Business College and earned her degree in business. Following graduation there she moved to Marshall, Michigan to join her father, and worked for McGraw Edison/Albion Manufacturing Company as secretary to the plant manager for 15 years. She then worked for Worgess Insurance Company as a secretary for over twenty years before retiring in 2009. Doris and Dorothy returned to St. Ignace area in 2013. Doris was a member of the United Methodist Church in St. Ignace and Lyon Lake United Methodist Church in Marshall. She was also a member of the Sault Tribe of Chippewa Indians. Doris and Dorothy both were a part of the Charitable Union for over twenty years where they knitted hats, mittens, scarves, and sweaters. Doris loved traveling, camping, gardening, knitting, and sewing. She enjoyed going on car rides and decorating birthday cakes for her nieces and nephews. She also made candy at Christmas time, favorites being caramel corn and peanut brittle. She was an avid reader and liked to play cards and board games. Doris is survived by her brother, Dell (Pamela) Powers; twin sister, Dorothy Powers both of St. Ignace; many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews. Doris is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Pauline (Gilbert) McNeely; and infant brother, Gary Leroy Powers. Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2020 from 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. at United Methodist Church, 615 US-2 W, St Ignace, MI 49781. The Funeral Service will follow at 12:00 P.M. Burial will be at Lakeside Cemetery in St. Ignace, in the spring. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Mackinac County Animal Shelter, 980 Cheeseman Rd., St Ignace, MI 49781 or the building fund for the St Ignace United Methodist Church, 615 US-2 W, St Ignace, MI 49781.
