Fredrick Charles Rye Sr. Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Frederick Charles “Fred” Rye Sr., age 80, of Pickford, Michigan, died on June 1, 2022, at his home. He was born in Pickford on September 5, 1941, to Charles William and Alma Ellen (Little) Rye. Fred was raised in Pickford and attended Pickford Schools. After high school graduation, Fred began working as a Laborer and Mason Tender. Some of the projects he worked on were building the Soo Locks, working on the Rock Cut, building the dorms and Crawford Hall at Lake State University, building the Kinross Airport, building the Chippewa Regional Prison in Kinross, building the Water Treatment Plant in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, and worked on the pipeline all over the Upper Peninsula. He worked for his brother Roy, delivering milk for Pickford Producers, and then for the Soo Creamery. He also worked for Dan Rye Builders on multiple projects. He met Dolores Bosley in high school and after a six-year engagement, they married on October 19, 1963, at the Pickford Presbyterian Church. Even though he worked all these jobs, he was a farmer and family man at heart. He raised dairy cattle, sheep, hogs, beef cattle, chickens, horses, as well as his six children, along with a bonus kid he loved. Fred was a member in the Pickford Presbyterian Church, Labor Unions, and Teamsters Union. Fred loved to bowl, farm, attend the fairs to watch his children, then grandchildren, then great grandchildren show their animals. He liked to watch the horse pulls, watch all sports on television (including bowling and rodeos), and read anything he could get his hands on, especially his bible, which he read every day. He was a very spiritual man even though he did not go to church regularly. He prayed every day and watched church programs on television every week. His greatest joy in the last years was his family. Fred is survived by his wife, Dolores E. Rye; daughters, Jo-Ellen (Jake) Campbell of Pickford, Sharolyn (Steve) Groh of Sault Ste Marie, April (Steve) Batho of Pickford, and Julie (Leo) Coullard of Pickford; sons, Fredrick (Shelley) Rye Jr. of Sault Ste Marie, Robert (Cherie) Rye of Pickford, and his special son, Terry (Camille) Wheeler of Belaire, Michigan; grandchildren, Nikki (Travis) Campbell, Heather (Mark) Black, Sandy Campbell, Tiffany (Matt) Campbell, Derick (Courtney) Campbell, Kayleen Ogston, Hadley and Talon Rye, William (Courtney) DeYoung, Grace (Kyle) Ferran, Sara (Todd Miller) Watson, Jennifer (Jared) Johnson, Nikki Storey, Will (Shawnna) Storey, Bobby Rye, Steven (Madeliene) Batho, Jacob (Maressa) Batho, Brett Batho, Austin (Kaylee) Beamish, Cassie Beamish, Robert (Jackie) Wheeler, Erik Wheeler, and Nikki (Dylan) Whitney; great-grandchildren, Hannah Graham, Kyle Graham, Mitchell Michalski, Mady (Conner VanLuven) Michalski, Quincy Michalski, Ramsey Michalski, Cody Campbell, Cora Black, Chase Black, Cole Gendron, Owen Campbell, Maryn Gendron, Evan, Ryan, and Kristian, Kyler Farren, Mackenzie LaPorta, Christopher and Blane Vagts, Ariel and Lucas Storey, Kade Batho, Grayson and Sonny Talentino, and Huxley Beamish; brother-in-law, Anthony (Sue) Bosley; sisters-in-law, Sharon Hamel, Carol (Murray) Hansen, LuAnn (Chuck) Harrison; and Delores Bosley. Fred is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Alma Rye; brothers, Roy (Louise) Rye, sisters, Loreen (Mack) Harrison, Jean (Cal) Hyslop, and Mary Ellen Rye; brothers-in-law, Jack Bosley, Chuck (Marilyn) Bosley, and Burton Hamel; sister-in-law, Denise Thompson; and Dolores’s parents Ross and Grace Bosley. Visitation will be held at Galer Funeral Homes & Cremation in Pickford, on Tuesday, June 7, at 11:00 A.M. till 1:00 P.M. The Funeral service will follow at 1:00 P.M.
