Shirley Helen Zoerner Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Shirley Helen Zoerner, 81, formerly of Sault Ste. Marie, Dafter, and Barbeau from 1969 to 2019 and most recently from Traverse City, Michigan passed away January 20, 2022 in Traverse City, Michigan. She was born April 25, 1940 in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario to Michael and Lillian (Hill) Peters. Shirley traveled the world with her family to places such as Spain, Morocco, Gibraltar, Mexico, and Caribbean Islands. She was a member of the Ladies Guild at Holy Family Catholic Church in Barbeau, MI and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sault Ste. Marie, MI. She also was a member of the choir at Holy Family Catholic Church. She helped with elections at Bruce Twp. School. Shirley enjoyed oil painting nature scenes and bus tours with her sisters Margie Piper and Betty Mihell. She also loved walking in the Soo Locks Park. In her younger years she enjoyed ice skating, downhill and cross country skiing on the trails Roy maintained on their property in Barbeau. What Shirley loved most of all was spending time with her family especially her grandchildren for family get togethers. Shirley is survived by her sons, Marty (Michelle) Zoerner of Harbor Springs, MI, and Steven (Wendy Beaudoin) Zoerner, of Sault Ste. Marie, MI; daughter, Leanne (Scott) Ford of Traverse City, MI; grandchildren, Amanda Zoerner of East Jordan, MI, Matthew Zoerner of Kalamazoo, MI, Taylor Zoerner of Charlevoix, MI, Mykala (Ilyas) Saytashev, and great grandchild, Enzo Saytashev (age 5 months) of McLean, VA. Shirley is predeceased by her parents, husband, Roy K. Zoerner (March 7, 1995); and sisters, Margie Piper and Betty Mihell. Visitation will be Friday June 17, 2022 from 10:30am until the time of Mass of Christian Burial at 12 noon at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 1101 Minneapolis St Sault Ste. Marie, MI 49783, with Father Michael Chenier officiating. Final resting place will be Oaklawn Chapel Gardens. The family requests memorial contributions be made in Shirleys name to Alzheimer's Association, American Cancer Society, or American Heart Society. Clark Hovie Galer Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
