Francis Joan. Gallagher, 86 of St.gnace Township passed away early Saturday morning, July 27 at Mackinac Straits Hospital Emergency Room. She was born on Mackinac Island on July 9,1927 to Elmer and Alberta (Garrison) Gallagher. She graduated from the Thomas W. Ferry School on Mackinac Island. , the oldest of eight children. . Joan was the first women carriage driver licensed by the Michigan State Park Commission and drove her hourly carriage from 1959 to 1961. After 1961 Joan moved west to various places, returning to St.Ignace in 2000. She is survived by her children; Rosan (Bryan) Riedl, Huntsville, Alabama; Cheryl Chapman, in Hawaii; Gary Chapman, St.Ignace; Craig Chapman, in Hawaii; grandchildren, Stacy Megli, Alabama; Shawn (Natasha) Briley, and Kalani Chapman, all of Hawaii; Lindzay Chapman and Garrett Chapman of Maine; Cheyenne (Chris) Chapman-Hills;, South Carolinagreat grandchilren, Isaiah; Dakota; and Ryder, Briley of Hawaii; and Mirielle Chapman-Hills, South Carolina;; brothers, John (J.K.) Gallagher, Cheboygan; Dale Gallagher, Mackinac Island; a sister, Darlene (Ted) Olson, St Ignace; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceeded in death by siblings, Rose Gallagher; Joyce Gallagher; Sandra Gugin; and Don Gallagher; and her husband, Garrett Chapman in 1973. She was an Elder of the Sault Tribe Chippewa Indians. According to her wishes , cremation has taken place. A Memorial service will be held at Ste. Anne\'s Catholic Cemetery on Mackinac Island, and will be announced by Dodson Funeral Home who assisted with arrangements.
